Muscle soreness and minor pain are things that are to be expected following most any workout routine, especially if you are changing things up or adding new elements and exercises that are meant to challenge you. There is nothing wrong with this as if you weren’t noticing some type of difference in how you feel, chances are you wouldn’t be pushing yourself hard enough.
But understanding the difference between just right and too much is important, as is making sure that you recover as quickly and completely as possible so you can get back in that gym or fitness facility and get back to building a better you! That’s why our team here at Downtown Fitness wanted to offer a few quick tips to make sure that you are not only making progress with each session but also in the recovery period following.
Pace Yourself on Strength and Endurance Exercises
You aren’t competing for Mr. or Miss USA. Make it challenging, not overwhelming.
Get the Proper Amount of Rest and Recovery
Speak with a personal trainer about your goals and go over a program that allows your body the proper amount of downtime.
Hydration is Key
Drinking water starting about 2 hours before your workout, during it, and after are all essential to recovery.
Consult a Physician for Persistent or Chronic Soreness
If you are doing everything you are supposed to do as far as resting between sessions and you continue to battle soreness, it might be best to speak with your doctor.
